By the end of 2024, Australia expects to have twice as many charging sites for electric vehicles, as forecasted.

According to a report by Next System, there were 1,297 car-charging sites and 2,460 charging points in Australia by the end of 2023. This was a 90% increase in the number of car-charging sites and an 83% increase in the number of charging points compared to 2022.

According to the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries, over 87,000 electric vehicles were sold in Australia in 2023. With the number of car-charging sites in the country, this means that there was an average of 35 electric vehicles per car-charging site.

Next System also predicted that the number of car-charging sites would double by the end of 2024, following a year of unprecedented growth. They revieled that there will be more than 1,600 car-charging sites in Australia by the end of 2024, of which 470 locations were already scheduled for new charging stations, and another 400 could be added during the year. This suggests that the car-charging network is expanding faster than the electric vehicle fleet in Australia.
