Understanding the difference between Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 EV charging?

Level 1 charger is an AC charger device for plugging your car into an ordinary house Powerpoint. A full charge might take about 24 hours for a Tesla Model 3 or Y. Level 1 device, which could be useful as a portable EV charger option but probably too slow for a road trip or your home day-to-day charge.

Level 2 charger is also an AC charger, but it delivers faster charging for your EV. It can be connected to both single-phase or three-phase house power, but you require an electrician to install and wire them up. They can deliver up to 12KW for home use and up to 22KW for commercial use. A full charge for a Tesla 3 or Y takes 3~4 hours. Many level 2 chargers can be found in public places such as shopping centres, etc.

Level 3 charger is a fast charger with a DC power supply. They can go up to 150Kw in charging speed. A full charge of a Tesla Model 3 or Y might take only 20 minutes. This type of charger requires significant power supply infrastructure. You can find them in fast charger stations.
