The NSW Government has announced a grant program worth $10 million to retrofit more than 100 apartment buildings with the technology required to support electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.
The program, called the EV Ready Buildings Grant, was aimed at eligible strata apartment buildings with at least ten apartments in both metropolitan and regional areas of New South Wales.
The grant was open to residential strata schemes with 10 or more units that have private off-street parking, and it covers both the feasibility study and installation phases. It's worth noting that development approval may not be required for EV chargers in car parks, but some local councils have specific conditions that applicants need to review.

Stage 1 focuses on feasibility assessments, where successful applicants receive funding to assess their building’s capability for EV infrastructure. This stage is mandatory before proceeding to installation funding. This stage closed on 15 December 2023, 9:00 am
Stage 2, provides funding for the installation of EV chargers, based on the feasibility studies from Stage 1. Applications for this stage are assessed on a "first-come, first-served" basis until the allocated funds are exhausted.
